Awards

Beginning two years ago in Colorado, we established an ongoing system for the Masters awards. It worked out well there and in New England and we expect to continue to use it in the future, tweaking it for improvement as we go. So, some version of this is what to expect this year in Madison.

Master Overall Award Distribution (5/23/00) (Junior award info to be added)

Award procedure -Each player gets only one award and that award is the largest one that he or she has earned. For instance, if the overall winner also has won distance, he or she would be given the large overall trophy which may also be engraved with the player's event wins as well. Every player receives at least a participation award. This is designed to avoid past situations in which some players had many awards and a good number of the players had no memento of the event. With this system, because there are no redundant awards, the award budget can be managed to get the best possible awards for everyone with the higher-finishing players receiving the larger, more impressive awards. Each award should carry the date, title and location of the event. If possible, the awards should have some tie to the region hosting the championships. Popular awards in the past have been made by local crafts people. It is ideal if the large and medium awards can personalized with each player's results. This of course requires that this information be added after the competition and before the awards. It is also suggested that some additional awards be prepared beyond the estimate. It is also good to be able to offer additional awards for sale to players after the event if they wish to have an award made up to commemorate a particular finish for which they did not receive an individual event.

Below are the estimates for this year's distribution. Note that this is a full layout of the awards and the estimates for this year are in brackets. It is not guaranteed that this will be exactly what is provided depending upon entry and budget considerations.
